It is that time of year again, when presents are flying from coast to coast and there are boxes coming into your house at an alarming rate. This year we hope that you do not forget to recycle that Christmas packaging!

We are hearing from post offices all around the country that there is an increase in shipping boxes this year due to online shipping options as well as slight rise in the amount that people are willing to spend on presents! With that in mind, here are our top Christmas packaging recycling tips!

Shipping boxes
Make sure that you are not putting these cardboard boxes in the trash. Most cities offer curb-side recycling and if not there are many areas which accept cardboard cartons broken down flat.

Shipping Peanuts
We found a great article from Ehow on how to get rid of these handy but pesky packaging materials. Next year make sure that you buy Recycled Packaging Peanuts!

Gift Wrap
Gift wrap is paper and should be put out with your paper recycling materials. Be careful of tissue paper, fancy foil or flocked papers and bows must all be put in the regular trash.

Polyurethane has been in use for many years, and for a variety of different applications. It is a form of plastic, and can be used for insulation, and in the creation of a variety of different products. However, in this article, we will address the most popular uses for this versatile product, as a packing substance used for cushioning. This is one of the most widely used applications for polyurethane, and cushioning comes in a wide variety of forms.

One of the most common creations of polyurethane are packaging peanuts, or fillers for holding fragile objects in place while in transit from one place to another. In the old days, (just some years ago, of course,) packing peanuts were loose in the containers. Now you can find them in small plastic bags, so they don’t spill and scatter all over the place when you open your products at home. There are many different shapes and sizes of these packing fillers.

Another application for polyurethane packaging is in rigid barriers. They can really be just about any shape and size, and are used in a number of different ways. When you buy any kind of audio or visual equipment, like televisions, stereos, and even computers, they come with these barriers around them, in key points where they are most likely to move around and get damaged. Because they are rigid, they hold items in place better, and you don’t need as many to keep your valuables in place.

You can also buy them on your own, when you are packing your home to move. There are many different polyurethane barriers for glasses, precious China, and other valuables. They can be made for edges, partitions, and just about anything else you need them for. You can even special order polyurethane packaging from companies for your individual needs.

Rigid polyurethane foam also makes a great insulating barrier for exterior walls, and there are many newer homes that utilize these materials. They are lightweight, can be cut to size, and will fit just about any cubbyhole, or wall space you need. They are moisture resistant and will last a lifetime. Because of its buoyancy and molding ability, polyurethane foam has been used for dock floats, boat pontoons, and dock barriers. It can be painted any color, without loosing its effectiveness. There are many uses for polyurethane, and every day more and more innovations are being discovered for its use.

When it comes to packaging, let’s face it – One size does not fit all!

Tired of trying to pack 10 pounds of product or material into a five pound box, keeping your fingers crossed that the product you’re sending reaches its destination intact? We’re here to help you reduce your packaging and shipping costs! Insulated Packaging Systems creates customized foam packaging solutions. Our foam packaging is manufactured on site in our factory and can be custom fit to required sizes and dimensions.

Choosing a custom-designed packaging solution from a quality foam manufacturer ensures that your customers receive their orders as expected.

Examples of our custom cut, quality foam products include:

Polyethylene (PE)
Polyurethane (PU)
Expanded Polystyrene Foam (EPS/ Styrofoam)

Product Examples

Our white custom cut PE (polyethylene) foam can be used for shipping heavier equipment to trays or inserts of all kinds to custom insulated containers to ensure your precious commodities are protected during shipping.

We use custom cut pink PE foam when ElectroStatic Discharge (ESD) is of concern. Although static electricity is an everyday phenomenon, ESD may damage sensitive electronic components. Pink PE foam allows easily broken and hazardous objects to be packaged without ESD or sudden shock to break components.

To ensure medical equipment and computers arrive at their destinations without compromise, Insulated Packaging Systems offers flexible and reliable packaging solutions utilizing our custom cut PU (Polyurethane) foam. PU is lightweight and provides maximum protection at minimum cost.

For thermal and moisture resistant packaging, we suggest custom cut Expanded Polystyrene (EPS), Styrofoam. Due to its physical properties, in particular its cushioning characteristics, EPS is resilient and reduces packaging cost and damage!

Packing foam is necessary, but it doesn’t have to be a ‘necessary evil’ now that there are environmentally friendly resources to create environmentally friendly packing peanuts. Doing our part to help make foam manufacturing less stressful on the environment is important to us and to our customers who require custom manufactured foam packing supplies. Providing customers with a product like packing peanuts made from recycled materials not only means cost savings that can be passed on from the foam manufacturer to their customers, but those savings can then be passed on to their customers.

Using sturdy polyethylene packaging foam and polyurethane foam packaging to protect your valuable shipments provides customers with another environmentally friendly option; foam products that can be used again and again. Creating reusable foam packaging products is as important as recycling plastics.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle is the motto you hear from environmental groups. Choosing a foam supplier that can help you create the most effective packaging solutions for your needs means less wasted foam, because the packaging has been custom made to your specifications.

Reducing packaging size also saves on shipping expenses and properly packaged goods look professional when they arrive. Everyone has received a small item packed in an overlarge box filled with foam packing peanuts because the supplier didn’t have adequate packaging to protect the goods being shipped.

Computer components are very sensitive and expensive and are often small pieces to ship. Anti-static shipping material is essential to ensuring that your components are fully functional when you get them installed. We live in a plug and play world; you buy a circuit board for your server and you expect it to arrive properly packed so you can keep your business up and running.

High quality anti-static packing can make all the difference to your client’s mission-critical applications. Providing professionally packaged goods ensures your circuit boards arrive ready to go. Custom-made anti-static packaging designed to fit your components is the best bet. One size does not fit all. It’s not environmentally friendly to ship a small component in a package that is too large, not to mention the damage that can happen when components are improperly packaged.

Professionally-designed and custom-manufactured foam packaging and anti-static wrapping tells your customers that their mission critical components are the most important thing to your business as well as theirs.

Nothing is more frustrating than opening a package you have been waiting for and discovering your newly acquired treasure in pieces because it wasn’t packaged and shipped with care. You now have an upset, disappointed and possibly angry customer who requires your undivided attention to put things right again.

Being the caring customer service representative, you immediately offer to replace the damaged goods and rush it out to the customer. You also send the customer a new shipping container and label for them to ship the broken item back to you. You have now incurred two additional and rather costly shipping charges above and beyond the original shipping cost.

Choosing a custom-designed packaging solution from a quality foam manufacturer ensures that your customers receive their orders as expected. You will have happy customers who call you again and refer you to their friends. You will have employees who can devote their attention to providing quality customer service. You will have a business that can continue to move forward and not waste time on fixing the errors of the past.

A lot of planning goes into every holiday from the food to the décor. Some of us begin shopping for gifts in July while the rest of us start running around once the countdown of the “shopping days until Christmas” begins.

But because families today are separated by oceans and countries and not just streets and neighborhoods, we need to plan Christmas gift shipping in advance for those that live far away. And planning the shipping involves both an early mailing and sturdy foam packaging material to get gifts to their destinations in one piece!

At Insulated Packaging Systems we provide the right materials for each job and we take special care to offer our customers the products that will allow the gifts for the grandkids to arrive intact.
The postal carriers in the last quarter of the year deal with a tremendous quantity of packages and while they are professionals, there is only so much they can do to protect the contents of the box. That’s where we come in; our quality foam shipping supplies will secure your holiday gifts. If you have any special items that require custom foam packaging, we can even design it for you! From made-to-order fishing poles to precious family heirlooms, our products protect your memories.
